Pennsylvania – Blasphemous Business Names

Until recently, the Pennsylvania Corporation Bureau prohibited businesses from registering names that included “words that constitute blasphemy, profane cursing or swearing, or that profane the Lord’s name” 15 Pa.C.S. § 1303(c) (2) (ii).  In a June 2010 court ruling, U.S. District Judge Michael M. Baylson declared that this law violated the free speech clause of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
